Private cervical smears

If you are registered with us and you are between the ages of 25 and 59 you will receive a letter inviting you to a cervical screening.

Women between the ages of 25 and 49 will receive a letter every three years and women aged 50 to 64 every five years.

Cervical smear tests are carried out to detect any changes in the cervix and / or any pre-cancerous cells.

These changes can be detected by a laboratory test on a small sample of cells taken from an area on the surface of your cervix called the
transformation zone.

If you wish to have a cervical smear test, are over the age of 20 and you do not fall into the 25 to 59 bracket please call the surgery and we can carry out a private test for you.
